ways to share the gospel

Sharing the gospel is an essential part of our faith. It can be hard though. We never know how people will receive the message.

There’s a difference between sharing your faith in general or parts of your faith versus sharing the gospel message. The gospel message is one of salvation. How do we share it?

  • Know the gospel well enough to summarize it in a simple way.
  • Speak of Jesus often. Reference your faith whenever it fits the conversation.
  • Be willing to speak about what you follow.
  • Be comfortable talking about your faith. Overcome any nervousness. Have confidence.
  • Be bold. Don’t be afraid to tell people who are suffering that God can save them. Tell that addict that Jesus delivers. Tell that wild woman that God can transform her life. Sometimes the people who need to hear it are people who look like they would have no interest.
  • If you feel like you’re not well-spoken verbally, consider writing letters to those people you want to reach.
  • Invite people to church. Getting them to church is a huge step in the right direction.
  • If you’re not sure what to say, talk to the ministers in your church about how to get better at this. Don’t hesitate to go to your church leadership for guidance on specific situations.
  • Invite people to bible studies.
  • If you feel seasoned enough, teach a bible study on salvation.
  • Give people encouraging scripture. Show them the wisdom in the bible. Offer them bible reading schedules. There may be a verse that will draw them closer. This can lead to bible studies on salvation.
  • Talk about who Jesus is. People will not understand the need for salvation if they don’t understand who the Savior is.
  • Share testimonies that show Jesus is real. He is still a healer. He is still the God of miracles.
  • Pray. Pray for opportunities to share the gospel and pray to know what to say to that person.
  • Use social media to share the faith. You can make your own posts or share other posts, videos, bible studies, etc.
  • For those who like to write, you could also have a website and/or blog to share your faith.
  • Gently ask open-ended questions to people willing to discuss it. Not everyone was raised in church. Not everyone who isn’t religious is opposed to learning more about Christianity. If you develop friendships with non-believers, have conversations about spiritual things.
  • Tell your story of how you came to follow Jesus.
  • We must live out our faith. Be set apart from the world. Avoid habits and behaviors that can damage your witness. Live a lifestyle of holiness.
  • Love one another. By this people will know that we are his disciples. If you show love and kindness to people as a Christian, it can open up an avenue for people to ask you about your faith.
  • Go looking for people to share with. Pass out literature. It can be as simple as handing a booklet to a cashier.
  • Minister to people in a time of need. Rehabs are a great way to do this. Prison ministry can be lifechanging.
  • Serve people in the name of Jesus. Serving others going through a difficult time can open up a door. Serve with the food pantry. Your church may have a homeless ministry. Sometimes we are speaking the gospel. Other times we are serving ‘behind the scenes’ and doing volunteer work where there is someone else doing the speaking or you are coming together to do action work that will lead to opportunities to reach people with the gospel.
  • Do missionary work. You can do this internationally. You can also do this in your own area.
  • Can you teach people how to be saved? Do it.

Write down some ideas on how you personally can start sharing the gospel with people. Consider making goals for this.

How do you share the gospel?
