This is a mnemonic I made to help me get through each semester.

Do the DDOPPSS

D – Be dedicated
D – Don’t bite off more than you can chew
O – Organization
P – Punctuality
P – Preparedness
S – Study Smart
S – Stress management and self-care

Dedication is number one because if you aren’t dedicated to sticking with it and not giving up nothing else really matters.

Don’t bite off more than you can chew. There is so much competition in college with grades, GPA, classes, credit hours, majors, extra activities, etc… Do what is right for you! It’s okay to be part time.

Organization is essential for success. OCD me considers that a life principle, but I’d never succeed in college without being organized.

Punctuality matters. Show up to class and show up on time. It’s hard to succeed in a class if you are always missing it or coming in late.

Preparedness is probably the easiest tip to succeed. Read the chapter beforehand. Review the powerpoint slides. Know what you are going over in class. Look at any materials the teacher gives you before you get to class. Show up to class with the textbook and a notebook ready to take notes. If you just show up to class and have no idea what you’re even supposed to be studying, it’s a little more challenging to get that A.

Studying is a necessary unpleasant part of college. That’s the most time consuming part of being a college student.

Stress management and self-care are incredibly helpful for college students. College is stressful! If you don’t stop stressing, you’ll get burnt out. Set it aside sometimes. Go out and have fun. Get some sleep. Eat a home cooked meal. Give yourself permission to take care of yourself.
