Leanna Mae is an author, women’s health educator, and birth doula. Her degree is in health sciences. She is passionate about patient education. Leanna loves to write and share helpful information. She loves to teach! She's also passionate about patient rights and healthcare ethics. Leanna became a birth doula in 2008, a certified breastfeeding specialist in 2014, and graduated college in 2018. After graduating, she started teaching classes. She now offers online classes and in-person classes in western Ohio as well as birth doula services in the greater Dayton/Springfield area. As a Christian with a faith-based business, it is my heart's desire to serve my doula clients with the fruit of the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. (NASB) I aspire to intentionally bring the fruit of the Spirit into what I offer. I have LOVE for each one of my clients and the profession. I have always had an interest in healthcare from a young age and knew women's health had my heart. It is right where I belong. I love this specialty of healthcare. I especially love this niche of patient education. It's the best! I have JOY for them as they bring this child into their family. It also brings me joy to see women have a good birth experience with quality care from their whole team. I intentionally try to bring PEACE into the classroom and the birth space. I am calm and quiet. We pray and we worship. I have a lot of calming nature music playlists. We do a lot to make the environment as relaxing and comforting as possible. Comfort measures are a doula’s specialty. Worship music changes the atmosphere. Prayer brings peace. We invite Jesus into the room and the situations we navigate. Birth takes PATIENCE. There’s waiting for labor to start and waiting for babies to come and waiting for things to weave together. We have to be patient with making progress in the field. The on-call life takes sacrifice to serve families. Patience is very needed in this field. KINDNESS is essential in healthcare. This is a beautiful journey, but it’s also a hard journey. We see a lot. We deal with a lot. We don't clock out. Sometimes we have to be intentional with choosing kindness when we are tired or weary. I want to go the extra mile and do the little things to make someone feel special. I put in a lot of effort to showing GOODNESS to the people I have the honor of taking care of. I respect them and acknowledge their leadership. I teach consent and bodily autonomy and patient rights. I do my best to give good care. I push myself to learn more and always seek to grow so that I can be good for families I serve. FAITHFULNESS in this reminds me of the importance to keep patient privacy and be a trustworthy professional that will not gossip. It is so important to me that people can trust me. I always want people to feel safe with me. GENTLENESS is an art that is learned over the years. We must communicate gently. We must educate with gentleness. When we guide the women on their birth path, we offer a godly gentleness in a submissive way. The woman is the leader of her healthcare. One must practice SELF-CONTROL in this field. We must master the tongue and bridle it well. We must be able to stay calm in any situation and be professional at all times. Handle with care. As a Christian business, it is my goal to produce the fruit of the Spirit in my service. If you are looking for a Christian educator or birth doula, I serve Dayton, Ohio and surrounding areas.
