There are many plans in the heart of a man, and nevertheless the counsel (purpose, plan) of Yahweh, that will stand (arise). – Proverbs 19:21

It feels like that, doesn’t it? We make all these plans. We plan out when we will get married and when we will have children and how many we will have and how far apart they will be. We pick out names. We may even pick out the times of year we want them to be born. Alas, we are the carriers of life – not the givers of life. The Lord gives the gift of life in His own timing according to His will. We can only pray. For those who are in the waiting season, we can find comfort in the scripture.

The bible is pure truth

Genesis 4:1 The man knew Eve his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Cain, and said, “I have gotten a man (son) with Yahweh’s help.” (WEB)
… This is the first bible verse that mentions conception and birth being something that is with the help of the Lord.

Abraham and Sarah were promised a son as told in Genesis chapters 15-18. However, Genesis 17:25 shows us that Ishmael was at least 13 before Sarah got pregnant with Isaac. For some, God does promise children. Some have been prophesied to. Others have had visions or dreams. Others have heard the voice of the Holy Spirit. That doesn’t mean it comes immediately. Sometimes we have to wait a long time to hold the promise in our hands.

Genesis 18:13-14 Yahweh said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Will I really bear a child when I am old?’ Is anything too hard for Yahweh? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes around, and Sarah will have a son.” (WEB)

Genesis 20:17-18 Abraham prayed to God. So God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female servants, and they bore children. For Yahweh had closed up tight all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife. (WEB)
… I include this verse to show the opening of the womb is from the Lord.

Genesis 21:1-2 Yahweh visited Sarah as he had said, and Yahweh did to Sarah as he had spoken. Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. (WEB)

Genesis 25:21 Isaac entreated Yahweh for his wife, because she was barren. Yahweh was entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. (WEB)
… This man prayed for his wife who suffered from infertility and God healed her.

Genesis 29:31 Yahweh saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. (WEB)

Genesis 30:1-2 When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children, or else I will die.”
Jacob’s anger burned against Rachel, and he said, “Am I in God’s place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?” (WEB)
… The fruit of the womb comes from the Lord.

Genesis 30:22-23 God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her, and opened her womb. She conceived, bore a son, and said, “God has taken away my reproach.” (WEB)

Exodus 23:25-26 You shall serve Yahweh your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you. No one will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will fulfill the number of your days. (WEB)

In Judges chapter 13, the birth of Samson was promised to his mother who was barren.

Ruth 4:13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife; and he went in unto her, and Jehovah gave her conception, and she bare a son. (ASV)
… It was the Lord who gave her conception – the creation of life.

1 Samuel 1:27 For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him: (KJV)
… This is one of the best verses for babies that come after a season of waiting.

2 Kings 4:14-17 He said, “What then is to be done for her?”
Gehazi answered, “Most certainly she has no son, and her husband is old.”
He said, “Call her.” When he had called her, she stood in the door. He said, “At this season next year, you will embrace a son.”
She said, “No, my lord, you man of God, do not lie to your servant.”
The woman conceived, and bore a son at that season when the time came around, as Elisha had said to her. (WEB)

Job 5:8-9 But as for me, I would seek unto God, And unto God would I commit my cause; Who doeth great things and unsearchable, Marvellous things without number: (ASV)

Psalm 6:9 The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer. (KJV)

Psalm 7:17 I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high. (KJV)
… Praise Him anyway. Praise Him before the pregnancy comes along.

Psalm 9:10 Those who know your name will put their trust in you, for you, Yahweh, have not forsaken those who seek you. (WEB)
… Trust in the Lord. If you know Him, you know He hears you and you can trust in Him. He will not forsake you.

Psalm 20:4 Grant thee thy heart’s desire, And fulfill all thy counsel. (ASV)

Psalm 27:14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. (KJV)

Psalm 30:11-12 You have turned my mourning into dancing for me. You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness, to the end that my heart may sing praise to you, and not be silent. Yahweh my God, I will give thanks to you forever! (WEB)

Psalm 40:1 I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. (KJV)

Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on Yahweh and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved. (WEB)
… Infertility or waiting to become a mother is one thing that can shake a person’s faith. Cast your burden on Him. He will carry you. He will keep you going.

Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us. Selah. (WEB)
… At all times includes the uncertain times. It includes the times when we don’t know when or even if anymore. Pour out your heart to the Lord.

Psalm 102:1-2 Hear my prayer, Yahweh! Let my cry come to you. Don’t hide your face from me in the day of my distress. Turn your ear to me. Answer me quickly in the day when I call. (WEB)

Psalm 103:1-5 Praise Yahweh, my soul! All that is within me, praise his holy name! Praise Yahweh, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits, who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies, who satisfies your desire with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (WEB)
… Praise the Lord. He is the one who can heal you.

Psalm 109:21-22 But deal with me, Yahweh the Lord, for your name’s sake, because your loving kindness is good, deliver me; for I am poor and needy. My heart is wounded within me. (WEB)

Psalm 109:26-27 Help me, Yahweh, my God. Save me according to your loving kindness; that they may know that this is your hand; that you, Yahweh, have done it. (WEB)

Psalm 113:9 He maketh the barren woman to keep house, And to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye Jehovah. (ASV)
… Jesus is the one who gives babies to the barren. He will give you your joy.

Psalm 121:1-2 I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth. (WEB)

… This journey of waiting to have children comes with a lot of heartache. He can heal your brokenness.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; (ASV)
… The time for your children to be born is already planned by the one who will form them in your womb.

Isaiah 30:18 Therefore Yahweh will wait, that he may be gracious to you; and therefore he will be exalted, that he may have mercy on you, for Yahweh is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for him. (WEB)

Isaiah 40:3-5 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. (KJV)

Isaiah 40:26 Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these, who brings out their army by number. He calls them all by name. by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power, not one is lacking. (WEB)

Isaiah 40:28-31 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (KJV)

Lamentations 3:21-25 This I recall to my mind; therefore I have hope. It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. “Yahweh is my portion,” says my soul. “Therefore I will hope in him.” Yahweh is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. Romans 4:19-21 Without being weakened in faith, he didn’t consider his own body, already having been worn out, (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. Yet, looking to the promise of God, he didn’t waver through unbelief, but grew strong through faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was also able to perform. (ASV)

1 Peter 1:3-7 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that doesn’t fade away, reserved in Heaven for you, who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved in various trials, that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ— (WEB)
… Your faith will be proven and it will result in people praising the Lord for what He has given you.

1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you. (ASV)
… He cares. He knows and He cares. Cast all that worry, all that fear, all that anxiety, all that “what if?” onto the Lord.

Wait on the Lord

Jesus is the author of life. He is the master of time. He knows the day and the hour. He knows your child’s name. He will form them in your womb and fashion them together (Psalm 119:73). He forms us in the womb and he knows us before birth (Jeremiah 1:5). God’s timing is perfect.

Wait on the Lord. He will bring it to pass. It’s already planned.

Jesus is able. That’s the message.

Have faith.

Praise Him in the waiting season.
