LOCAL CLASS -
husband/partner training for birth support

Picture
What this class is about: This class is for couples who are not going to have a doula and they plan for the husband/partner to be the main support person. I teach the dads how to do all the physical support techniques that I do as a doula, guide them in emotional support, and we talk about ways that partners are able to be the best support for the birthing momma.

Class outline and curriculum:
  • Dads, your presence matters
  • Inclusion of fathers in the birth space
  • Couple communication on support dos and don’ts
  • Emotional support and the husband’s role to empower his wife
  • Coping with contractions
    • What it means to cope
    • Techniques and options
    • Mindset and affirmations
    • Scripture and prayer
    • Distraction
    • Breathing and vocalization
    • Visualization
    • Relaxation techniques (releasing tension)
    • Hydrotherapy
    • Warmth
    • Cool down options
    • Movement and positioning for comfort
    • Counter-pressure
    • Pain medication options
    • Using the techniques that work for you
  • Helping manage the environment
  • Sweet support – the things men can do to serve in birth

There is a workbook that goes along with the coping with contractions portion of the class. The workbook is free. Please download it through the blog here and consider printing it for class.

Why take it: An involved partner is one of the most beautiful and intimate things in a birth. Knowing how to take care of her and comfort her during birth is one of the most precious things she will remember about birth support. If you are not able to have a doula or prefer not to, this class will prepare fathers to support birth on a pro-trained level.

Who it’s open to: This is open to couples in their 3rd trimester.

What to wear: This is a hands-on class. Wear something flexible.

What to bring: You don’t have to bring anything, but you are welcome to bring any labor support supplies you’ve gathered and practice with those in class.

Where class is: This class is available in person in the Dayton, Ohio area. Service area is based on county. See the Classes I teach page for more information. All classes are in-home unless a student can host at their church or other public location (in public is preferred if able).

When: All classes are by appointment only.

Cost: $150 per couple

How to schedule: Email me via the contact button below. Before scheduling any in-home private classes, I do meet in a public location for safety reasons. In that meeting, we will customize the class outline and do payment. For public classes, email me to sign up and receive an invoice via Paypal. Once payment is complete, you will receive an email confirming your spot in the class along with the date and time.
